Fall Banquet, October 29, 2011

We had a great banquet on October 29 with close to 100 people attending. Thanks to all who came out. We enjoyed a wonderful supper prepared by Becky and Phil Loewen and Meredith Rinas. We also appreciated Kim Worthington preparing the camp videos for us.

September Work Weekend

We had an amazing turn out for our September long weekend. 63 people were on hand to clean and fix up the camp. The main highlight was the replacement of the roofs on the East and West cabins. Thank you to everyone who came out and contributed their time and energy to some much needed work projects.

2011 May Work Weekend

May 20-23 was our annual work weekend at camp. We joined together to work on some maintenance projects to get camp ready for the summer camping season. Photos of the weekend are below.

Camp Oshkidee Ministries Expands

The Board of Directors of Camp Oshkidee Ministries recently took a significant step towards expansion of the services and programs to be offered at Camp Oshkidee. Due to a recent development the August lease period became available. Eager to see a full summer of camping ministry at Oshkidee, the Board decided to create a Camp Oshkidee Children & Youth Ministry. The Camping program will be a full service, accredited camping program under the direction of newly hired Program Director, Liz McTaggart. The Board is pleased to have Liz on Board after having served nearly 20 years with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. A long time camping ministry advocate and active camp director, Liz brings extensive experience and passion to kick start the Oshkidee Children/Youth Camping ministry. A newly minted Children/Youth Camp ministry committee will provide guidance and hands-on support to ensure Summer 2010 is a great success for campers at Camp Oshkidee.

The Board first became aware of the potential opportunity to begin their own Children/Youth Camping ministry in early Fall. A series of special meetings that included considerable consultation with experienced camping directors led the Board to move ahead with the ministry decision. Oddly enough, the original plan and vision for Camp Oshkidee was based upon Board sponsored and operated Children/Youth camping program. That the Oshkidee ministry developed into a Family Focused program was more providential than intentional. So now, almost 40 years later, Camp Oshkidee will be actualizing the vision and mission of the founding Board and members.

The Camp Oshkidee Board of Directors invites supporters to continue in prayer regarding this new ministry expansion. There will be incremental costs, many of which have already been considered, but will surely include other costs that arise unexpectedly. The Board seeks to encourage long time donors to continue in their faithful financial support of the Oshkidee ministry. As well, the Board is reaching out to those supporters and friends of the Ministry to consider either year-end, or New Year monthly contributions to ensure long term sustainability of Camp Oshkidee.
